Here’s the story so far, from Augusta Maine.

The ride so far

Friday was a mostly solo ride up 30 and 30A on my way to Ensign Pond Road – video posted earlier. From Ensign pond, I headed for the Fort Ticonderoga Ferry to meet up with Rich who chose roughly the same route as I on his way up from Hancock, NY. After taking the ferry, we headed straight for the hotel arriving just before the rain.

Saturday was the 27th WDGAH, our annual gathering of the VFR faithful. Rich, Matt and I planned to ride a moderate route, heading west into NY and agreeing to make routing decisions along the way, keeping a wary eye on the weather radar. What resulted was a great 289 mile day that included a stop for coffee and pastries at the Warren General Store, a traffic-free run over the App Gap, two ferry crossings on Lake Champlain and a return visit to Ensign Pond Road in-between.

Sunday was the start of Rich and my trip to Nova Scotia. Our target was Augusta, ME to put us close enough to Bar Harbor to make the Monday Ferry to Yarmouth. We rode up through NH and into Maine, making some good squiggly lines along the way. We hit the Kancamangus Highway, Bear Notch Road, Hurricaine Mountain Road and Main 113 before turning East again and heading for Augusta. Once again we managed to dodge the rain!

Low clouds on the Kancamangus.

Today we ride to Bar Harbor with plans to visit Acadia National Park before checking in for the Cat Ferry to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and the real start of our trip.

Managed to avoid all of this!

More to come!
